REMEMBER....
 All Derby Public Schools Pre-K through Grade 5 are NUT-FREE. This includes peanuts and all tree nuts. We cannot allow foods into the school that contain any type of nuts, nor can we allow any foods in that list a blanket statement such as "may have been made in a facility that produces products that contain nuts" for the safety of our students.

Authorization of Medications

All prescription and over-the-counter medications are administered by the school nurse. In her absence, the principal, or staff members who have been properly trained, may administer medications to students. NO STUDENT MAY SELF-ADMINISTER ANY MEDICATION WHILE AT BRADLEY SCHOOL.

Prescription and over-the-counter medication must have a written order by a licensed physician, APRN, dentist or physician's assistant. Parents or a designated responsible adult must supply and deliver the medication to the nurse in the original container. NO STUDENT IS ALLOWED TO BRING OR TAKE HOME ANY MEDICATIONS ON BUS DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.

DISEASE

EXCLUSION FROM SCHOOL POLICY

Chicken Pox

6 days or until all lesions are crusted

Common Cold

No exclusion if afebrile (99.9 degrees or lower) without the use of temperature lowering medication

Conjunctivitis (Pink Eye)

Has received appropriate medically prescribed treatment (antibiotic eye drops) for 24-48 hours and has permission from the physician to return to school

Coxsackievirus (Hand, Foot & Mouth Disease)

A full 24 hours after the child is afebrile (99.9 degrees or lower) without the use of temperature lowering medication 

Diarrhea and/or Vomiting

A full 24 hours without symptoms

Elevated Temperature

(100.0 degrees or over)

A full 24 hours after the child is afebrile (99.9 degrees or lower) without the use of temperature lowering medication

Fifth Disease

Excluding children from school is not recommended as a public health measure unless a fever is present

German Measles (Rubella)

7 days after onset of rash

Hepatitis

Has physician's permission to return to school

Impetigo

Has received appropriate medically prescribed treatment (antibiotics-oral and/or topical cream) for 24 hours and has permission from physician to return to school. All lesions must be covered

Infectious Mononucleosis

No set time - only while illness lasts, has permission from physician to return to school

Influenza

A full 24 hours after the child is afebrile (99.9 degrees or lower) without the use of temperature lowering medication

Measles

5 days after appearance of rash

Meningitis

No set time - only while illness lasts, has permission from physician to return to school

Mumps

Until swelling has subsided or not less than 9 days after onset of parotid swelling

Pediculosis (Head Lice)

Until hair is clear - no appearance of head lice or nits and has used prescribed shampoo or over-the-counter treatment, especially for treatment of head lice. See pediculosis regulation R5141.221

Pertussis (Whooping Cough)

5 days after appropriate medically prescribed treatment (antibiotics) started or 21 days if not treated

Ringworm of Body

None, if under proper treatment, has permission from physician to return to school and lesions must be properly covered

Ringworm of Scalp

None, if  under proper treatment, has permission from physician to return to school

Scabies

Has received appropriate medically prescribed treatment (antibiotics) for 24 hours and has permission from physician to return to school

Strep Throat & Scarlet Fever, Streptococcal Infection

Has received appropriate medically prescribed treatment (antibiotics) for 24 hours, and a full 24 hours after the child is afebrile (99.9 degrees or lower) without the use of temperature lowering medication, and has permission from physician to return to school


 

Also, if you expect your child to be absent from school, please notify the attendance coordinator or school nurse by phone, email, or send in a note stating the cause.

All students are required to be immunized against DTaP- diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis, Polio, MMRV- measles, mumps, rubella and varicella, and Hepatitis A and B. Kindergarteners must also have a HIB (haemophilus influenzae b) and a Pneumococcal vaccine after age 1.

*A student may be exempt from the requirement if they present an exemption certificate from a physician certifying that vaccination would not be prudent because of medical reasons or that such would be contrary to the religious beliefs of the student.
