Summer Assignments

Dear Bradley School Families,

While the Bradley School staff hopes that summer is filled with relaxation, fun and adventure, we also recognize that practicing skills over the summer will help offset the “summer slide” that students experience from the end of one year to the start of the next school year. Our data indicates this has really impacted student achievement the last two years. We strongly recommend that your student participate in The Governor’s Reading Challenge by reading for at least 20 minutes a day over the summer break. It’s the perfect way to practice the skills they have learned throughout the year. Research has shown children who don’t read over the summer months can lose up to 3 months of reading progress.  Our goal is to have 100% participation in the Governor’s Reading Challenge. Here’s how it works:

  • Your student must read and then hand in the Governor’s Reading Challenge Journal on the first day of school, August 27, 2018. The K-2 and 3-5 class with the most Governor’s Reading Challenge Journals will receive a pizza and ice cream party during the month of September!
  • Students who read 10 books or more over the summer will also receive ONE FREE SOUND TIGERS TICKET.  Please note the same books read for the Governor’s Reading Challenge can also be listed on Sound Tigers form. Please fill out the Sound Tiger’s Summer Reading Program book journal and return with the proper payment for additional tickets to attend the Opening Night of the Sound Tigers game. Thank you for your cooperation on behalf of your student. Have a great and safe summer!

At Bradley School we leave our P.A.W.S. on everything we do. We Persevere, Act Responsibly, Work and Play Safely, and Show Respect. These are the characteristics that define who we are and will help us become positive role models in our school and community.
